I, Owen Mayo, am the creator of various musical arrangements, as well as the creator of the Made by the Sea orginization.
Senior Project: Where it Started
This project started with an idea for a filmed production to display my music composition process. I filmed and edited the video with the help of one my friends, over the cource of 15+ hours. After completing the editing process, I felt satisfied with the work I had compiled, but the project still felt incomplete.
Second Development
After completing the video process of my project, I felt it was necessary to take the project further, but in a slightly different direction. I felt it was important to understand the principles of marketing ones art, instead of simply focusing on the creation of art. That is of course not any sort of declaration that all art should be created for the sake of capital. I felt it was important to learn the fundimentals of simply displaying art, leaving out any capitalistic motives. With this idea in mind, I crafted the second portion of my project, createdbyowen.com. This site not only included the video I had made, but also various projects I had been working on at the time. I was able to personalize my site with images and layouts that felt individualistic and tasteful.
Final Development
I learned a lot of useful information during the website design aspect of my project. Before starting this project I was familiar with Logic Pro X, a recording software, but I was completly unfamiliar with Adobe Premiere or Squarespace. After becoming familiar with squarespace and the fundamentals of web design, I felt that I needed to make one final extention to my project. I was very pleased with the fact that I was able to learn new ways to display art on a digital platform, but I couldn't help but think my fellow creators in the artistic community. It seemed necessary to use this platform to not only display my own work, but also the work of my talented peers. The final edition of my site is now called madebythesea.org, and includes works of multiple artists accross different mediums.
